8. Explain and describe the process involved with assembling your axles and bearings. Why do you sup
In order to assemble the wheels and axles to my dragster I was given a straw, 2 axles, 2 big wheels, 2 small wheel, 4 washers and 2 small beads. To assemble the axles the straw was cut so that it is as long as the width of the back of the car. Then the straw was inserted into the axle hole and the axle was placed inside of the straw. Next, I placed a washer on one side of the dragster and placed one of the big wheels onto the axle. Then I pushed the wheel in as deep as possible into the axle. The same was done for the other side. Then in order to assemble the wheels and axle of the front wheels I had to insert beads. Basically just like i did to the back wheels, I cut the straw so that it is the same width as the front of the car, then I placed the axle in the straw and added washers. The only thing I did differently was that before I placed the wheels on I inserted the beads right after the washers because the axle was too long and the width of the front of my car wasn't as mush as the axle therefore in order to prevent the axle from moving, the beads were inserted. Then finally, the small wheels were pushed in as deep as possible into the axle so that it is tight, but not too tight, otherwise the axle might not spin. The reason why all the materials must be considered are that without the straws in the axle hole, the axle and wood will cause a lot of friction when the car spins, therefore in order to reduce the friction acting upon the car the straw was inserted which allowed the axle to spin without causing friction. Moreover, the washers were also crucial in this process because without the washers there will be a bit of space between the wheel and the dragster itself therefore allowing the axle to move left to right so with washers, the wheels are more tightly secured against the dragster and therefore minimizing the movement of the axle from left to right which then makes the car move straight and not cause the dragster to turn. Basically the purpose of the beads was the same as the washers but the only difference was that the beads were a bit wider whereas the washers were skinny so if I had used only washers at the front of the dragster to prevent the axle from moving freely from left to right, it would have required quite a few washers.
